Your Atlanta Realtor’s Mortgage Series Part 7: Remember – Shop, Compare, Negotiate

To conclude our seven part series on mortgages, we’re emphasizing the importance of remembering to shop around, to compare costs and terms, and to negotiate for the best deal. Your local newspaper, the Internet, and your personal Realtor are good places to start researching a home loan. You can usually find information both on interest rates and on points for several lenders. Since rates and points can change daily, you’ll want to check often when shopping for a home loan.

Don’t take any one lender’s word for anything.  If anything, use the information that one lender provides you with and present it directly to another lender to see if they will beat the terms and the pricing…and then do that again, and then again, until you are confident that you have the best deal possible!

The big blue home near the Edgewood Retail District makes subtle variations on neo-Craftsman architecture, blending traditional flourishes with contemporary restraint. Recently listed at $679,000, the home is a simplified, subtler take on the updated Craftsman style that’s been sweeping Atlanta in recent years. Its positioning a block from the Edgewood Retail District surely helps feed its “Very Walkable” WalkScore. The home is also convenient to the Beltline (a few blocks away) and MARTA (a few more blocks, via Reynoldstown). The deceptively large home features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, 3,000 square feet of living space, and a wide-open main floor. Perks include high ceilings, quartz countertops, a fireplace, two-car garage, and a master suite with a freestanding tub and glass-free shower. The front porch is generously sized and borderlines wraparound, and features two ceiling fans.
