Development Continues Along Howell Mill Road

Howell Mill Road continues to be a hotbed for development on Atlanta’s Westside.  Westside Ironworks, home to Barcelona Wine Bar, O-Ku Sushi, and various retails outlets has been buzzing for well over a year and is continuing its expansion with the pending opening of Upbeet (a Yeah! Burger spin-off that will focus on local grown, organic food).  Now, I’m reading about two more developments, one of which is well past the planning stage and, if all goes according to plan, should be breaking ground as we move into Spring.

Star Metals Residences and Star Metals Offices, which are slated to break ground this Spring, is a $200+ million project that plans to bring 400 apartments, 185,000 square feet of office space, and 30,000 square feet of retail space, straddling both sides of Howell Mill Road near 11th Street.  The buildings are planned to be 9 and 12 stories tall, respectively, and keeping with the overall vibe of this part of town plan to incorporate a modernized industrial aesthetic.  While not overly large, at their planned height both buildings should offer great views of the surrounding area as well as downtown Atlanta.

Looking a little bit further down the road, a planning permit has been filed with the city to redevelop the old industrial building at 1465 Howell Mill Road that currently houses Urban Tree Cidery.  Current plans call to transform the building into retail space that can hold up to three tenants, and will be located along the path of the Beltline (assuming that project progresses as currently planned).  No word on what Urban Tree’s plans are, though it sounds like at the very least they have some time to figure that out.
